To work in close cooperation with policymakers in the drafting and enforcement of automotive standards.
To equip engineers and technicians with the latest skills and knowledge.
This industry collaboration focuses on advancement through joint work among manufacturers and the research community, for example, building and development of EVs, ADAS, and ITS.
In other words, ARAI acts as a strong link in the chain in the Indian automotive sector for the implementation of evolving demands on the wheels of sustainability, safety, and innovation.
From simple core components of a vehicle, the auto sector has come a long way. Now, the pre-fitted accessories in the form of car radios, infotainment systems, immobilizers, and tracking devices have proved to be important and have shaped the driving experience.
Ever since 2016, ARAI mandated testing for such pre-fitted components under certain standards to ensure safety and build reliability in the automotive ecosystem.
Till 2016, most vehicle parts, including car stereos, infotainment systems, navigation, and immobilizers, among others, were considered just accessories and not integral to the basic model of a vehicle.
These components also weren't put under the same scrutiny given to the vehicles themselves.
In 2016, ARAI made independent testing of pre-fitted accessories at specific standards compulsory.
The aim? To ensure these integral systems meet the required stringent safety and performance requirements.
ARAI's Automotive Electronics Division (AED) independently tests pre-fitted accessories to the following standards:
01
AIS-004
Relates to car radios, navigation systems, infotainment devices, and tracking devices when used other than for fleet or public transport
AIS-076: What is ARAI approved anti-theft device?
These are devices fitted to your car so that they are not stolen easily or if they are. They can be tracked without much hassle.
02
03
AIS-140
This covers mainly the ITS and tracking devices for compliance with advanced transport technology.
These standards ensure that accessories fit into the vehicle's design while guaranteeing benchmarks for safety and performance.
ARAI-approved anti-theft device for car and immobilizer specifications ensure strong security features. It covers technical automobile devices like the following- ARAI approval for e rickshaw, ARAI-approved GPS device, ARAI-approved CNG kits, ARAI-approved e-rickshaw list, ARAI-approved electric auto, ARAI-approved electric bike, ARAI-approved electric car conversion kit, ARAI-approved electric kit for car, ARAI-approved electric scooters, ARAI-approved gas safety device, ARAI-approved GPS device, ARAI-approved PUC machines, ARAI-approved retro-reflective tapes, ARAI approved speed governor, ARAI helmet PSB-approved, ARAI helmet sharp approved, ARAI racing helmet dot approved size 7.50 m
These standards ensure that accessories fit into the vehicle's design while guaranteeing benchmarks for safety and performance
